デストロイド・モンスター (Destroid Monster)

A mecha from the Macross series. It first appeared in Choujikuu Yousai Macross TV anime series from 1982, but also appears in the Macross Zero OVA, the Macross Plus movie, the Macross VF-X and Macross VF-X2 video games as well as the Macross Frontier TV series.

The Viggers/Centinental HWR-00 Mk II "Monster", also known as "Destroid Monster" (in the Japanese version) or "Monster Destroid" (in the "Robotech" vesion), destroid is a main battle robot system (mecha) created by the U.N. Spacy to fight the Zentradi. It is a heavy type of mecha designed for anti-capital ship long-range operations.

An immense mecha, the Heavy Weight Robot (HWR) Monster Mk II is a heavily armed "land battleship" or landship with a name matching the great size of the destroid.

Is armed with four cannons that can fire a variety of munitions, including anti-armor shells, anti-aircraft munitions, howitzers and even "reaction" (nuclear) warheads.

In addition to the main guns, the Mk II features a pair of 3-barreled missile launchers not originally included in the design but incorporated into the two arm units.

Its successor mecha called the VB-6 Konig Monster appears in later Macross productions.

The original Monster was designed by Miyatake Kazutaka in the early 80s. It was based on the real life M50 Ontos tank, used by the U.S. Marines in the Vietnam War.
