Juan "Johnnie" Rico is a young human soldier of Filipino (Argentine in the anime and film adaptation) ethnicity and a member of the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military unit equipped with power armors that is involved in an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnid alien species known as the "Bugs".
