gretsch

American instrument maker founded in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York City by German immigrant Friedrich Gretsch. While starting with banjos tambourines and drums, the Gretch that is known today is most famously known for their hollow-body electric guitars followed by its line of Jet solid-body bass guitars and electric guitars.
The name Gretsch starded gaining rapid success and popularity in the guitar market with the introduction of their now instantly recognisable large-scale hollow-body guitars in the mid and late 1950s with the growing success of the Country, Rockabily and Rock n' Roll in general as opposed to its relative competitors Fender, Gibson and Rickenbacker being popular in more alternative (and often heavier) forms of music.
