A fictional alien starfighter from the MACROSS series. It first appeared in the Choujikuu Yousai Macross TV series from 1982.
The Fighter Pod (空戦ポッド, kuusen pod) is a Zentradi one-man tactical aerospace attack spacecraft designed for outer space and atmospheric operations. It is very fast, highly maneuverable and also armed with a triple-barreled energy cannon on its nose and several internal missile bays.
In the TV show, its official name is obscure. But judging from some Zentradi operator's quote in Vrlitwhai Kridanik's spaceship, it's called Gnerl (ジナール). In Artdink's PlayStation 3 video game, ”MACROSS 30: Ginga wo Tsunagu Utagoe”, the starfighter is officially called "Gnerl".
In real life it was designed by Miyatake Kazutaka in the early 80s.
