yoshi

The dinosaur-like creatures appearing in the Mario series since Super Mario World, as well as their own series of games. Has a frog-like tongue which can be used to swallow enemies and turn them into eggs which can be thrown. They also all can rapidly kick their feet to gain more height mid-air, called a Flutter Jump.

They come in a multitude of colors, with green being the default.

Takashi Tezuka, director of Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island, insists that Yoshis are not actually dinosaurs but more related to Turtles/Koopas.[1][2][3][4]

Rexes, Dorries and Plessies seem to be species that are distantly related to the Yoshis.
