Across all of its incarnations, the Impreza has always been deeply associated with the World Rally Championship, usually in the Subaru World Rally Team blue in contrast to its biggest rival, the usually Marlboro/Ralliart red Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Initial D's Fujiwara Bunta owns a GC8 model Impreza WRX STi Coupé Ver. V (its anime installment being in Sonic Blue Mica, whereas the car is Gun Metal Gray in the manga), which he deems a "practical, everyday car".
