Soul Calibur is a legendary weapon and the namesake of most entries in the Soul series of fighting games. Soul Calibur is a weapon of purity that is diametrically opposed to its sibling, the corruptive Soul Edge. The gleaming crystalline weapon - inhabited by the spirit Elysium, the opposite of Soul Edge's spirit Inferno - is singular in its purpose, focused solely on defeating Soul Edge by any means necessary. Despite its noble calling, it does not mean it is a benevolent weapon; it will attempt to make any sacrifice needed to starve Soul Edge of souls to claim, even if that includes ending all life on the planet by suspending its inhabitants in crystal or even trapping its wielder in crystal if it feels they are not up to the task. Like Soul Edge, it can take the form of whatever is most convenient for its current owner.

Soul Calibur's most famous owners include Chai Xianghua (without her knowledge at the time), Siegfried Schtauffen after forsaking the moniker of Nightmare, and Patroklos Alexander.
