A Marine commodore promoted from the rank of captain after apprehending Crocodile. He is Monkey D. Luffy's nemesis, whom he continuously pursues across the Grand Line.

He once ate the Moku Moku no Mi Devil Fruit, which allows him to turn himself into plumes of smoke and to generate and control smoke.

Often seen smoking two cigars at once.
