MTV (Music Television) is cable music channel that began airing in August 1, 1981. While the channel originally aired music videos from rock bands, the channel later aired music videos of different music genres after criticism by some artists like Michael Jackson for the channels lack of diversity especially the lack of black singers.
Since MTV's airing, the channel not only airs music videos but also music documentaries, biographies of famous singers, live concerts, award shows and even original content that isn't music related like adult animation, game shows and reality shows .
