millipede
A flattened arthropod with a long, segmented body. Millipedes usually feed on dead or decaying plant matter. Millipedes have a pair of legs on their second through fourth body segments, and two pairs of legs on most following segments. Millipedes defend themselves from attack by coiling up to protect their bodies with their exoskeleton, and by using chemical defenses.
