Larry's head originates from a font labeled Font Heads created in 2000 by Ethan Dunham of Fonthead Design licensed under the EULA of Fonthead Design; it was introduced to Gentoo in 2002 by Daniel Robbins, using it on Gentoo's about section, 404 page, and in certain news posts, under the name "Larry the Cow".
In 2004, Matteo Pescarin introduced a version of Larry the Cow that included the cow's body.
