The dominant ruling party of the Republic of China (1928–1987), having fled to Taiwan in 1949 after fighting and failing to defeat the communists, establishing a decades-long dictatorship. Today, it remains a major centre-right political party, with their rival being the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
