Fumikane's original art series started long before the Strike Witches project was set up.
According to his doujin, the mechanized soldiers (機械化歩兵) are a type of homunculus created through aliens' robotics and Terra's alchemy. Their striker unit-shaped machinery is called the Alien Engine (エイリアンエンジン/異星人機関).
