gibson sg

Solid body electric guitar made and manufactured by American instrument maker Gibson first introduced in 1961, originally as a new, lighter double-cutaway version of the Gibson Les Paul when its sales had been declining due to the Fender Stratocaster's rapid success. However, Lester Polsfuss (Les Paul) hated the new design and demanded that his name not be associated with the guitar. The name change would eventually occur in 1963, being renamed SG which literally stands for Solid Guitar. The SG eventually became Gibson's best selling model of all time and has been used by famous musicians by the likes of AC/DC's Angus Young, Frank Zappa and Radiohead's Thom Yorke.

Among anime and anime-themed characters, nitroplus's Super Sonico and Angel Beats!'s Yui are the most prominent.

Common visual traits of the SG include a short and round double-cutaway body, four control knobs, double humbucker setup and a tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar, with certain models (specially earlier) sporting a tailpiece instead.
