A type of personal mecha armor from the Macross universe.

This advanced power suit appeared first in the Macross Frontier anime science fiction TV series from 2008.

The EX-Gear (Extender-Gear EG-01M/MP) is a special suit designed as both a reinforced-exoskeleton powered suit as well as an ejection seat/emergency unit for new variable fighters. It is even capable of flight on its own, with its miniature hybrid jet/rocket engine and large variable-geometry wings.

The military model (military specification EGP-03/05) is used by the VF-25, VF-171EX, YF-29, YF-30, VF-1EX and VF-31 pilots as an armored pilot suit to tolerate the extremely high speeds and acceleration these new variable fighters can reach. It can be used by a VF pilot to control the fighter remotely.

Due to its high mobility in the ground and its high maneuverability in the air it is also used as a small personal combat power armor and as a highly versatile mechanized infantry support unit.

There is also a civilian version (utility-type PS/ML-21) used for flight training and air acrobatics purposes.

In real life the EX-GEAR was designed by Ishigaki Jun'ya.
