The flag of East Germany features the same black/red/gold tricolor of the German flag, with the addition of the national emblem of East Germany in the centre. The emblem consists of a hammer (representing workers) and compass (representing intelligentsia) surrounded by a wreath of wheat ears (representing farmers).
