Du Fu (Pinyin: Dù Fǔ, Wade-Giles: Tu Fu; Japanese: To Ho; 712–770)

A Chinese scholar-official and poet of the Tang Dynasty, whose minor career in civil service was cut permanently short due to the An Lushan Rebellion in 755, at which point he took up a reclusive lifestyle much like his elder contemporary, Li Bai.

Unlike Li, his reputation at home and abroad took off only in the centuries following his death, but the two are now both considered to be the greatest poets of the Tang, and among the greatest in the Chinese literary canon.

Would become the subject of the meme "Du fu hen mang", as well as being reimagined as a female character in the game Sangai Senki.
