deep bond (racehorse)

ディープボンド プボ プボ君 モーイ

His name is a combination of his sire and grandsire's names. (Deep Impact + Kizuna "Bond")

Japanese race horse. Sired by Kizuna and foaled by Zephyranthes (by King Halo). He is a brown horse with no leg markings and a large star facial marking. He is of the same owner as Contrail as well as his contemporary.

He is infamous for ironically being a slow-natured horse. His "PuBo" nickname is also an expression of his slow nature-pubo. He also has another "Mo-i" nickname derived from a cry the horse allegedly made on camera, which was instantly picked up by the Internet for the cry being so un-horse-like (the "cry's" actual source is disputed).

He also happens to be Japan's racehorse with the highest earnings without any G1 wins, thanks to his 4 consecutive podium finishes at the Spring Tenno-sho (finishing 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and 3rd). While he surpasses Nice Nature in earnings, races in the 2020's give significantly more earnings than races in the 1990's and Nice Nature ran more races in general. Deep Bond retired after the 2024 Arima Kinen and will become a leading horse at Kyoto Racecourse.
