belphegor (demon)

In demonology, Belphegor (or Beelphegor) is a demon who helps people to make discoveries. He seduces people by suggesting to them ingenious inventions that will make them rich.

Some depictions of him indicate he must be worshiped on a toilet, such as the 1863 edition of the Dictionnaire Infernal which has an illustration of him on a toilet (see wikipedia page). This depiction seems to have caught on in Japan, and this depiction of him is common in the Shin Megami Tensei series and makes a short cameo toward the end of episode 7 of Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou.
