In Bleach, bankai is the second and final form that a zanpakutou can take, being more more powerful than a shikai and with a more drastic change in appearance. It requires a lot of experience to unlock so only the higher ranking members of the shinigamis are able to unleash it. Like shikai, a user is able to release and revert their bankai at will.
