ball (gundam)

A fictional mecha from the Gundam science fiction series. It first appeared in the Mobile Suit Gundam TV show from 1979.

The RB-79 Ball is a simplistic mobile weapon created by the Earth Federation to support their fledgling mobile suit space forces. They are usually deployed in vast numbers and operate only in zero gravity environments.

Despite its unassuming looks and less than unique armament, the Ball was somewhat agile and possessed multiple different configurations, which made the pokey machines quite dangerous in the right hands. It is said that a Ball, piloted by Shiro Amada, was even capable of defeating a Zaku II High Mobility Type in one-on-one combat.

In real life its design was inspired by the EVA pods from 2001 A Space Odyssey.
