Aza Choubei, born Fuwa Choubei, is a well-known bandit leader in Iyo known as the Bandit King (賊ぞく王おう, Zoku-ō) and is responsible for multiple crimes committed. After getting arrested, Choubei became one of the few criminals recruited to acquire the Elixir of Life for the shogun from the dangerous island known as Kotaku in exchange for a pardon, with his brother , Aza Touma, acting as his execution monitor.
