Created by Matsumoto Izumi, Madoka formed part of the love triangle in the Kimagure Orange Road series, along with childhood friend Hiyama Hikaru and male protagonist Kasuga Kyousuke. Matsumoto reportedly based Madoka partly on Phoebe Cates, the 1980s American actress, and Japanese songstress Akina Nakamori. Distinguishable by her long black hair, extended bangs and greenish eyes.
