When the "path" of an attack is empathized. Be it superpowers like pyrokinesis or physical weapons like swords. The point of this trail is giving the image a sense of motion in an otherwise 2D drawing, similarly to motion lines, motion blur, speed lines and smear frame.
Not to be confused with light trail.
