2023 titan submersible incident
On June 18, 2023, the Titan, a submarine operated by OceanGate, sunk after suffered from decompression damage 740 kilometers off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada, during the sightseeing trip to the wreck of the RMS Titanic. All 5 people onboard, including OceanGate's CEO Stockton Rush, have been declared dead.
Subsequent investigations revealed the vessel was practically doomed from the start, due to poor design and ignorance by Stockton Rush, including him firing an expert for telling him his vessel was not seaworthy. This, combined with a viral photograph of the Logitech game controller that were being used to control the sub, led to various memes deriding OceanGate and Rush.
