High heels with a thick, raised sole at the back of the shoe, forming a wedge-shaped heel. Also known as espadrilles or simply as wedges.
Unlike normal heels, the bottom of the shoe is flat, with no gap between the sole and the ground.
If the entire sole is thick, but the heel is thicker than the front, then both platform heels and wedge heels may apply.
