The capital of the Eastern Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, and Ottoman Empire, established in AD 330 by Constantine the Great. It sat on the western side of Straits of Bosphorus. Renamed to Istanbul in 1930. The Hagia Sophia is located within the city.
